The problem with anti-depressants

Antidepressants can never fulfil you – It’s what you do that fulfils you.

The use of antidepressants is an issue close to my heart as there are so many people I care for that have used or are using antidepressants as a solution to their problems. The antidepressants neutralise their feelings but is that what they really want… a neutral life with the added bonus of side-effects such as sexual problems, drowsiness, sleep difficulties, and nausea to name a few…

Where are we heading as a society where pre-schoolers are the fastest-growing market for antidepressants??…Where are we heading as a society where we solve our children’s feelings of sadness by giving them drugs! We need to show our children that it is okay to feel sad and that it is a natural part of life. Sad events happen to every one of us…and they will continue to happen…how we interpret those events will either stifle our growth or help our growth. We can choose to medicate ourselves and ignore our pain or learn from it and grow.

Life is not all joy and happiness. It’s about living and feeling everything that life has to offer…including sadness and learning from our experiences so that if we need our learnings in the future…they will be there for us.

Depression is a label we give to people who have a depressed mood most of the time, have lost interest or pleasure in most activities, are fatigued, can’t sleep, have no interest in sex, feel hopeless and helpless, can’t think clearly, or can’t make decisions. That label tells us NOTHING about the cause of those symptoms.

Rather than using drugs to suppress symptoms, we need to find the root causes of problems and eliminate the depression forever. Sadly, many people would rather be medicated than acknowledge and deal with their real fears. There are others who have had enough of living in the past and have decided that they will do whatever it takes to be the master of their own fate and live the life they deserve and I have had the honour of witnessing their amazing transformation.

Depression is one of the greatest problems and killers of our time.

15% of the population of most developed countries suffers severe depression. Depression will be the second largest killer after heart disease by 2020.

The use of antidepressants has tripled in the last decade and spending on antidepressants soared by 130%.

You Don’t Know the Full Shocking Story:

Antidepressants don’t work and have significant side effects according to The New England Journal of Medicine. Most patients taking antidepressants either don’t respond or only have a partial response

Clinical research at Duke University in the U.S. found that an exercise program can be as effective an antidepressant as Zoloft, and sometimes actually more effective

Drug companies are NOT forced to publish all the results of their studies. They only publish those they want to. According to a critical review of 74 studies involving 12 antidepressants and over 12,000 people, it was discovered that 37 of 38 trials with positive results were published, while only 14 of 36 negative studies were published. Those that showed negative results were, in the words of the researchers, “published in a way that conveyed a positive outcome”.
